THE BENCH
There is one bench in this workshop. It stands where the kitchen of Haus Färberstraße 9 used to be, two streets below the Glashütte church, and it has held every movement finished here since 2011. The lamp is a fifty-year-old Waldmann with a new bulb. The tweezers are Dumont No. 3, dressed every Monday morning before anything else is touched.
Kaliber 72 is assembled twice. The first assembly is for truth — every wheel run in, every pivot burnished, the escapement matched and adjusted until the trace goes quiet. Then the movement comes apart completely. Every steel part is blued over a spirit flame, every plate takes its final grain, and it is assembled again — this time for good.
Between first and final assembly lie some three hundred and forty hours. None of them are interesting to watch. All of them are in the watch.

TWELVE A YEAR
Kaliber 72 is made in a series without end but not without patience: twelve movements a year, numbered from No. 001 in the order the letters arrive. The movement is finished, cased, regulated and rated here — no part of it is sent out, and no year’s twelve are alike in their engraving.
Delivery is quoted honestly: fourteen months from the day an order is confirmed, and only what can be finished is confirmed. Orders are taken by correspondence. A letter tells more than a form ever will.
